Management Training FAQ

Answers to the questions we hear most often from HR teams, L&D managers, and individual participants considering our programmes.

Common questions

Our team of seven trainers have all held line-management or senior-leadership positions in UK organisations before moving into training. Their backgrounds span healthcare operations, financial services, logistics, and local government. Each trainer holds at least one coaching qualification (typically ILM Level 5 or ICF ACC), and all complete 40 hours of continuing professional development per year. We match trainers to client sectors so the examples and language feel familiar to participants rather than abstract.

Our new manager foundations and performance conversations programmes run with 8 to 12 participants. The senior leadership intensive is capped at 6. These limits exist because practice time is the core of every session. With more than 12 people in the room, individuals spend too long watching and not enough time doing. If you have 20 people to train, we will run two cohorts rather than squeeze everyone into one.

Yes. About 70% of our programmes are delivered on-site at client premises. We need a room that can seat the group comfortably with space to move chairs for pair exercises, a projector or large screen, and a flipchart. If your office does not have a suitable room, we can arrange an external venue near your location; the venue hire is quoted separately so you can see exactly what you are paying for.

We offer a fully virtual version of the performance conversations programme, delivered over two half-days on Zoom or Teams. Participants use breakout rooms for practice and receive individual written feedback from the trainer after each exercise. We do not currently offer hybrid (some people in the room, some remote) because the practice dynamics break down when half the group is on screen and half is not. If your team is distributed, we recommend the fully virtual format rather than a hybrid compromise.

Every participant leaves with a written action plan: two or three specific commitments they will put into practice within the first fortnight. Four weeks later, one of our trainers calls each participant for a 20-minute coaching conversation. They review what worked, what was harder than expected, and what to try next. This follow-up is included in the programme fee. If your organisation wants ongoing coaching beyond that call, we offer monthly one-to-one sessions at a separate rate.

We ask for at least four weeks' notice for a standard programme. That gives us time to hold a briefing call with your HR or L&D lead, tailor the scenario content, and prepare materials. For the senior leadership intensive, six weeks is ideal because we often need to coordinate diaries with busy senior leaders. If you have an urgent need, get in touch; we can sometimes accommodate shorter timelines depending on trainer availability.

Cancellations more than 14 days before the programme date receive a full refund. Between 14 and 7 days, we charge 50%. Within 7 days, the full fee applies. You can substitute participants at any time at no extra cost. If we need to cancel due to trainer illness or unforeseen circumstances, we will offer the next available date or a complete refund, whichever you prefer.

Yes. Each participant receives a digital certificate of completion that includes the programme title, dates, and the number of CPD hours. Our programmes carry between 8 and 20 CPD hours depending on length. The certificate is issued as a PDF within five working days of the programme finishing. If your organisation needs certificates in a specific format for internal records, let us know and we will accommodate that.

Topics our programmes cover

Each programme focuses on a specific cluster of skills. Here is a quick overview of the areas we address across our three core offerings.

Structuring one-to-ones

A practical format for weekly or fortnightly check-ins that keeps the conversation focused and useful for both sides.

Giving and receiving feedback

Techniques for delivering feedback that changes behaviour, and for receiving it without defensiveness.

Managing difficult conversations
